National Investment Bank settles $7.2bn in debts, most non-performing assets

Restructuring · completed$7.2bnMonday 26 October 2026

Planning Minister Ahmed Rostom said debts and financial entanglements of about $7.2 billion (E£402bn) between the National Investment Bank and government bodies have been settled since February 2026. The settlement resolves more than 95% of the bank's non-performing assets as part of a restructuring ahead of its conversion into a new institution.

Clearing a large share of non-performing assets at a state lender is a key step in restructuring NIB's balance sheet before its planned transformation.
