Development Bank of Ethiopia plans shift to indirect lending model

The Development Bank of Ethiopia is preparing a framework to channel development finance through commercial banks, microfinance institutions and equipment lessors. Details such as eligibility, costs, guarantee coverage and timing have not been published.
It would change how Ethiopian businesses access state development finance and shift credit risk to intermediary lenders.
MTN Ghana and its separately incorporated Mobile Money Fintech Limited posted a combined profit after tax of about $670 million (GH₵7.75bn) for the nine months to September 2026, up 43 percent. The results cover the telco and its mobile money business, which became a separate company in March 2026.
